A synchronization license allows a licensee to synchronize a musical copyright with some visual content such as a film, television show, online video, video game, advertisement, movie trailers, etc.

Synchronization licenses require the right to use the sound recording as well as the right to use the composition. Therefore sync licenses require the record label clear the sound recording and the music publisher(s) to clear the composition.
