A copyright registration is the filing of a work with the Library of Congress so that there is a verifiable record of the date and content of the work in question. This way, in the event of a legal claim or infringement case, the copyright owner can produce a copy of the work from an official government source. This is often confused with PRO registration, which for the collection of performance royalties.
