Micro-sync refers to the royalties generated from the synchronization of music with video or images in online platforms like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, or TikTok, including user generated videos. Generally micro-sync licenses are issued for a small fee and through an automated system, to use a piece of music in an online video for personal, social and non-commercial use. Depending on the platform, these uses often generate both mechanical and performance royalties, as well as additional revenues for the recording owner and video creator.
