Under US Copyright Law, songwriters, composers, producers and music publishers are entitled to royalties when their music is publicly performed at businesses. Playing music at a business through a personal music streaming account (e.g. Spotify, Apple Music, etc.) does not relieve that business of its requirement to obtain permission from copyright holders in advance of playing the music. If music is streamed at a business through a personal Spotify or Apple account, the business requires PRO licenses before it can do this.
